Frequently Asked Questions

Installation Questions / Requirements

Q: Where is SpamLion installed?

A: The Gateway is typically installed on a dedicated server inside your network.

Q: Can we install the SpamLion Gateway ourselves?

A: Yes, however we recommend watching our Installation Video to see what is involved with a typical installation.

Q: Can I install SpamLion directly on the mail server?

A: The Gateway can be run on the mail server if you run Virtual Server 2005 or VMware software.  Otherwise the Sender Validation Gateway is designed to run on its own dedicated server.

In late 2007 we plan to offer an installer capable of deploying the SpamLion software directly on an Exchange 2003 mail server (without needing Virtual Server 2005 nor VMWare).

Q: What are the system requirements?

A: System requirements will vary depending on your mail flow.  A Gateway running on a 800Mhz PIII w/256MB of RAM, running Windows 2000 Server will handle over 500,000 e-mails a month.  The Gateway should be installed on a dedicated server (or virtual server) running a Windows server class operating system.

Q: Is there a desktop version available?

A: The Gateway doesn’t require any desktop software to be installed.  It is designed to protect mail servers and thereby the desktop user’s mailboxes.
