Validation Processes / How It Works
Q: Won’t spammers just validate themselves?
A: While it is possible, the odds are definitely
against it. Research has shown that
approximately 95% of spam can’t even be replied to due to forged “reply to”
addresses. The remaining spammers would
have to wade through tens to hundreds of thousands of email messages to
validate themselves. This is generally
far too much work for a spammer to consider worth doing.
Q: Is Sender Validation the same as Challenge/Response?
A: No. Sender Valdiation is a proactive
technology, based on learning the addresses you communicate with
before "challenging" them. When properly used most people you
communicate with will never know you are protected by Sender Valdiation.
Sender Validation has the ability to employ Challenge/Response
technology if the Administrator wishes to.
Q: Is the validation global or individual?
A: The Gateway primarily uses a global validation so that
validated senders are allowed to communicate freely within the
company. An add-on feature designed for ISPs will
allow individual validation lists to be maintained.
Q: Can lists be imported into the Gateway?
A: Yes. In addition
to its auto learning techniques, the Sender Validation Gateway allows
administrators to load lists of both Receivers (your own mailboxes) and valid
Senders.
Q: Does the system allow protecting some addresses but not others?
A: Yes.
Administrators can set individual mailboxes to be protected or
bypassed.
Q: Does SpamLion allow me to blacklist certain addresses?
A: Though unnecessary, the Gateway has the ability to
manually block addresses, and domains.
Q: What happens to email from non-valid senders?
A: Email fro non-valid sources goes into a Quarantine
folder, or Trash folder depending on settings of the software.
Q: Can I get back email from Quarantine/Trash?
A: Messages sent to quarantine or trash can be released
anytime prior to being deleted through the trash purge cycle, which is set by
the administrator.
